West Yellowstone

After an overnight stay in the gateway town of West Yellowstone, our home for the next few days, we headed into Yellowstone Park early in the  morning, along the Madison River looking for elk and Bald Eagles along the river corridor and then onto the thermal area.

Caught site of a herd of bison in the distance, nicely framed with steam from the geysers but nothing close by. The park is really busy..maybe because it’s Sunday.

Bison roam the thermal features

We had to battle with hoards of people around the boardwalks of the thermal features, amazing that nobody gets knocked into the boiling water and mud.

As it was so busy, we headed back into West Yellowstone in the afternoon to visit the Grizzly and Wolf discovery centre

The centre is a ‘not for profit’ wildlife facility that houses animals that would otherwise have been destroyed.

Heading into wolf and bear country tomorrow so hopefully some photos of them in the wild.
