The Beartooth Highway to Cody

The All American Beartooth Scenic Highway stretches 68 miles from the east gate of Yellowstone at Cooke City to Red Lodge Montana. Right up there with Route 66, the Beartooth winds up through the scenic Beartooth and Absaroka mountains through mountain passes, national forest and clear mountain lakes, the road topping out at 10,947ft, and is dubbed the most beautiful highway in the States.

We met  this lady  and her partner several times on the road today with her little dog travelling with her on the Harley trike.  Living the dream.

The Beartooth ends with a sharp winding descent into Red Lodge which gives way to a long straight road through to Cody passing by the remains of the Smith Coal mine which suffered disaster in 1943 with an underground explosion.
