Alamosa to Denver

The last leg of a three week Rocky Mountain trip, coving Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park and south through Colorado and Utah to New Mexico.

We travelled just short of 3000 miles in 3 weeks passing through Colorado,Wyoming, Montana, Utah and New Mexico.

Last full day and a lot of distance to cover, so setting off early from Alamosa to Denver via Colorado Springs.

As we head into the mountains to cross over The Rockies the rain turns quickly to snow. The passes are high, Poncha at 9,010ft and Wilkerson 9,570ft with snow settled on the road. The snow ploughs are out in force.

Stopped at Wilkerson Pass to take a few photos. The snow is heavy and settled to 2/3 inches. It’s lovely crunchy, sticky snow.

Out of the mountains the weather clears up and our last stop the USAF Academy at Colorado Springs.

There is a fantastic multi-faith chapel here, famous for its architecture and stained glass.

And so onto Denver and an overnight stop before flying home.
